Harmony Day

Our school community came together to celebrate Harmony Day in a vibrant and meaningful way. Students proudly dressed in orange, the colour symbolising respect, inclusion, and belonging, creating a bright and unified atmosphere across the school. Throughout the morning, children participated in a range of engaging Harmony Day activities, working collaboratively, building friendships, and learning about the importance of cultural diversity. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to celebrate what makes each of us unique while recognising the strength we share as a connected and inclusive community.

Easter Celebrations

The final day of term 1 was filled with creativity, celebration, and community spirit as students took part in our much-loved Easter Hat festivities. In the morning, students enthusiastically designed and created their own unique Easter hats, showcasing their imagination and flair. In the afternoon, families and friends gathered to enjoy the Easter Hat Parade, where students proudly showed off their wonderful creations. We were also delighted to welcome children from our local preschool, who joined in the parade with their own fantastic hats. A special thank you to our P&C for generously providing a small Easter treat for each student, adding an extra touch of joy to a memorable day.

A Special Visit from Our Nation's Leaders

Our school was honoured to welcome the Speaker of the House, Mr Milton Dick, along with Mr Michael McCormack, Federal Member for Riverina. They spoke with our Years 3–6 students about their important roles in Australia’s government, sharing valuable insights into how our parliamentary system works. Students were highly engaged and even took part in a fun role-play activity, bringing their learning to life.

The visit concluded with a special moment on the oval, where students, staff, and our visitors came together to hold one of the Australian flags that flies atop Parliament House. It was quite a feat to hold, given its enormous size, but it made for a truly memorable and meaningful experience for everyone involved.

Supporting Local Achievements and Charities

Our students were excited to be part of Sam Lonmore's inspiring 'Big Wheel' fundraising journey from Corowa to Yass, combining authentic learning experiences with the opportunity to support an incredible community cause.

In the lead-up to Sam's visit, students participated in learning activities that incorporated Mathematics and Geography, tracking her journey, calculating distances, exploring the towns and landscapes she travelled through, and gaining a deeper understanding of the planning and determination involved in such a remarkable challenge.

Students also created colourful posters and banners to cheer Sam on as she travelled through Binalong. One of the highlights of the day was welcoming Sam to Binalong Public School, where she made a special pit stop to meet the students, share her journey and enjoy a well-earned lunch break before continuing on her way.

The experience was a wonderful opportunity for students to see how determination, resilience and community spirit can make a real difference. We were proud to support Sam and her fundraising efforts, while connecting classroom learning with a meaningful real-world experience that our students will remember for years to come.

Celebrating NAIDOC Week

Binalong Public School proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week by joining students from across the region at Berinba Public School in Yass for a day of learning, connection and cultural celebration.

Throughout the day, students participated in a range of engaging activities that celebrated the rich history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Guided by local Aboriginal Elders and community members, students had the opportunity to take part in traditional cooking, Indigenous dance, language workshops, spear and boomerang throwing, and Indigenous art activities. These authentic, hands-on experiences provided valuable opportunities for students to learn directly from those who generously shared their knowledge, stories and cultural practices.

The day also provided a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn alongside peers from other visiting schools, fostering new friendships and a shared appreciation for Australia's First Nations cultures. Through these experiences, students developed a deeper understanding of the significance of NAIDOC Week and the importance of recognising, respecting and celebrating the world's oldest continuing cultures.
